Shanghai Ceramics Association (SAC) was founded on Dec. 5th, 2003. It covers most of enterprises, universities, research institutes, and consultant institutions around Shanghai area which are engaged in production of ceramic materials, such as advanced ceramics, new glass materials, artificial single crystals, refractories, inorganic bio-ceramics，materials for environmental protection, inorganic coatings and thin films as well as the related equipment and testing instruments. Up to now， SAC has more than 50 group members and 4 professional committees, That is. ceramics committee, glass committee, machinery and equipment committee, and crystal and jewel committee.

SAC is designed to rally the efforts with the purpose “to promote development of advanced ceramics and to accelerate technical innovation and progress of traditional ceramics”, cultivate talents, carry out technical consultancy and informational interchange at home and abroad, co-design and co-trial new products and popularize and apply scientific and technical achievements.

In addition, based upon advanced ceramics SAC holds symposiums on advanced ceramics and corresponding international exhibitions periodically, involves in developments and reforms for ceramic material industry and gives a hand to government in making policy decisions for ceramic material industry, delivers information for development of new technology and market demands, carries out investigation and analyzes the statistic data, and draws up industrial standard of new products as well.
